About The Role

Location: Head Office, Nottingham (hybrid working, 2 days a week onsite)

Salary: Up to £80000

We have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our Deals team at The Nottingham!

You will play a crucial role providing expert legal advice that facilitates the seamless execution of new partnerships that will enable inorganic mortgage growth and acquisition transactions.

Your influence extends beyond inorganic transactions. We are seeking someone with a diverse skill set to provide legal guidance on a multitude of matters, from managing legal risks to negotiating and drafting contracts.

Your strategic legal advice will be instrumental in aligning our activities with our risk appetite, ensuring strategic alignment and fostering a secure and compliant environment.

This is a perfect role for a Senior Lawyer / Legal Counsel who values innovation, excellence, and collaboration. This role will involve working with a diverse team to deliver some bold and exciting strategic plans for the Society!

Here’s a taste of what you will be doing in our Legal Counsel – Deals role:-

  • Collaborate with the Head of Deals to understand business objectives and provide your expertise to align legal strategies accordingly
  • Analyse complex interactions and contribute to effective deal structures
  • Conduct thorough due diligence investigations, identifying legal issues and risks
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents ensuring that all decisions safeguard The Nottingham’s interests in relation to terms, contracts, and agreements
  • Develop strategies to navigate legal challenges associated with transactions
  • Utilise effective mediation and negotiation skills to resolve disputes, agree terms and maintain positive relationships with partners and suppliers
  • Identify and address potential legal risks associated with deals and collaborate with risk management teams to develop strategies for risk mitigation
  • Work closely with the Head of Deals for a holistic approach to deal execution
  • Manage engagement with external lawyers, ensuring timely and budget-conscious advice
  • Support the wider Legal team and Head of Legal with day-to-day legal risks, legal advice and contracts

About you: -

  • Proven experience in transferable role, specialising in commercial contracts, complex deals and merger and acquisition transactions
  • The ability to think at both strategic and tactical levels and move effectively between the two, including being able to consider the risk implications of both current and future business activities
  • Complex problem resolution capability with the ability to articulate innovative solutions
  • Exceptional relationship building at all levels with both internal and external customers
  • Good decision-making with an ability to exercise sound judgment on a consistent basis
  •  Strong continuous improvement, quality and process management focus
